Conduction of electricity through gases. Cathade rays, properties of cathade rays. Production, properties and uses of X-Rays. Thermionic omission: Applications, the diode and triode. Millikan oil drop experiment. Quantum, physics, quantisation of radiation photorics, photoelectric effect, wave-particle behaviour. Atomic structure and spectra; isotopes Mass spectrometers, Bohr's theory of Hydrogen atom, Balmer series, Rydberg constant quantum numbers. Nuclear Structure, constituents and binding energy. Nuclear forces and models. Radioactivity, properties of characteristic radiations. Decayl law; decay constant and half life. Interactions of radiation with matter; detectors of nuclear radiation. Applications of radiations - medical and industrial. Nuclear fission and nuclear fusion. Reactors.
Assessment is by assignments and examination.
